Oral Roberts is dead

Praise be to God for removing such a deadly false teacher from the midst of Christ's church.

  1. It is rather strange, and strikes me as creepy, to be appreciative and happy when somebody has died. However, since I, too, have been guilty of this, I shall avoid any condemnation.

After all, when I heard Jerry Falwell had died, I must admit, I was pleased.

  2. Just curious but why was he such a "false teacher"? I am not real familiar with him but I thought Protestants were fans of the guy.

  3. Most are, bc, but I'm sure you're aware that there are lots of diff kinds of "Protestants". :-D

I just happy to be one of the more discerning ones.
He's the grandpappy of the Word of Faith heresy, the health and wealth "gospel", "name it and claim it", "positive confession", "blab it and grab it", prosperity "gospel" garbage. It's horrifying when you start to think thru the implications.

    I recommend this audio series:

and the book it cites from. It really opened my eyes.
I used to be charismatic, for 6 yrs. I earned my stripes, spoke in tongues, believed in prophecies, engaged in holy laughter and being drunk in the Spirit, all that stuff. But I always knew the falsehood and the evil of Oral Roberts' and friends' teachings.

  5. With reference to Matthew 15:11, does celebrating somebody's death qualify as an evil thought in your worldview?

  6. berandoc,

It would depend, I should think, on whose death one is celebrating, and why.

  7. I should think that it depends on no such thing.

  9. Given that you're the one that made the initial assertion without any explanation, you're the one who needs to answer the question: why?
