Creation of a Bacterial Cell Controlled by a Chemically Synthesized Genome
Our good friend ERV has comments on it, which are refined and coherent, true to form. Strangely, she leaves out the obvious, that the creation of this bacterial cell was due to ****INTELLIGENT DESIGN****. Gosh, I wonder why she might leave that out...
Actually the cell was not created. They used a cell that was already existing. Creation of a cell would be big news.
ReplyDeleteThey implanted an organic cell with synthetic DNA, from what I read. The science media, as always, is misrepresenting what actually happened in their titles.
ReplyDeleteTo say nothing of the apologist bloggers.
ReplyDeleteWhat they did is the equivalent of taking apart a car engine, machining duplicate parts, and then putting the new engine together to see if it runs. It's more impressive in that they still haven't fully teased out what all those parts actually are doing.
Doesn't say anything about the origin of the first "engine."
To say nothing of the apologist bloggers.
ReplyDeleteThat's awful vague.

Not so much vague as broadly applicable, but if you want to read that as "Rhology misinterprets science" then by all means.
At any rate, I'll agree with you when it comes to mainstream media of science stories--they suck, and always go for the flashiest interpretation even if misleading. However, most actual science media that I've seen has been fairly accurate.
Who claimed it did?
Rhology, in past entries.
